Carbon8 Systems’ CO2ntainer completes its journey to Vicat’s Montalieu cement plant

Carbon8 Systems, the UK-based CCUS company that generates profit from industrial waste and CO2, has signed its first commercial global licence deal with the Vicat Group cement company, following two successful demonstration projects at cement plants in the UK and Canada.

Vicat is an international company that manufactures cement, aggregates, and ready-mix concrete in four continents and an industry leader in CO2 and circular-economy strategy. Carbon8 Systems will deploy its modular, CO2ntainer system at Vicat’s Montalieu cement plant in southern France in September. The CO2ntainer will be integrated into Vicat’s existing industrial processes. It will capture CO2 directly from the plant’s flue gas emissions, which will be used to convert cement bypass dust into lightweight aggregates through the use of Carbon8 Systems’ patented Accelerated Carbonisation Technology (ACT) solution. In its first phase of operation, Carbon8 Systems’ CO2ntainer will process and convert up to 12,000 tonnes of cement bypass dust into valuable construction aggregates.
